My Neighbor's Car was Stolen!

Today, Wednesday, June 20, 2007 between 2 pm and 3:30 pm, my neighbor's car was stolen -- yes, in broad daylight!

The car was parked in front of my neighbor's house, which is located on Lyttonsville Road near 16th Street in the Woodside neighborhood of Silver Spring, MD.

He has already called the police and filed a report, but if anyone out there sees a Blue Jeep, model year 2004, with license plate 690 M 382, please contact 911 and let them know you have seen a stolen car.

One of the windows is broken, which is how the thieves got in the car.

Thanks for your help in keeping your eyes open.

Rachael's Women's Center Needs Magazines

Today, I visited Rachael's Women's Center in Washington, DC.  This non-profit organization has helped women for over 27 years with everything from addiction counseling to placement services.  They also offer a place to come feel safe, participate in a community, and to get a hot meal.

Every day, the Center offers different group activities, like creative writing.  I participated in that session this morning, and I was very impressed with the women's ability to write.  They wrote beautiful, touching pieces in just about 15 minutes.  They expressed themselves wonderfully, and displayed their range of interests and experiences.

Not only do these women have something to say: they love to read!  They like magazines the best, but they also like books.  If you have magazines or books that you don't want any longer, please recycle them by donating them to Rachael's Women's Center.  The women want all magazines of all kinds -- they told me if they don't like a magazine, they cut it up in art class (they really love making collages to express themselves).  No magazine is wasted at Rachael's!

On Friday afternoons, they screen movies for the women at the Center, so if you have any DVDs or videos that you no longer want, please send them to Rachael's Women's Center.

These women are working very hard to take care of themselves, learn, and make their lives better.  All they ask is a chance -- and something to read.

If you'd like to send your magazines, books, videos or DVDs, you can send them to the address below:

Rachael's Women's Center
Attn: LIBRARY
1222 11th Street NW
Washington, DC  20001

Please do NOT send any other items at this time.  The Center is having some rehab work done and they don't have storage space.

Thanks for recycling your reading materials to Rachael's -- they are thirsty for knowledge.
