Annual Bloomsday Reading of Highlights from Ulysses on Wed., June 16!

The Harvard Club of Washington DC and American Independent Writers

are pleased to invite you to their 2010 Bloomsday Reading of Highlights from Ulysses. 

 

We begin at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

 

It will take place at Guapo's Tenleytown Restaurant (Upstairs)

located at 4515 Wisconsin Avenue, NW, 50 paces from the METRO Station

(Parking is available nearby at Whole Foods).

 

The event is free of charge and open to the public.

 

We intend to start promptly at 7:00 PM so arriving early is highly recommended to secure strategic positioning and appropriate fortifying sustenance.

 

Our friends at Guapo's have promised to lay in a stock of Guinness and Harp to complement their fine Mexican brewery offerings, diverse Margaritas and extraordinary cuisine -

that might well have changed the culinary habits of Leopold Bloom (he would likely have been partial to the seafood burrito, the Acapulco steak, and the tequila-glazed jumbo shrimp, although he would likely be watching carefully as Ritchie Goulding systematically ate his way through the quail fajitas).

 

Leopold Bloom, Stephen Bloom and Buck Mulligan will be unable to come due to being fictional characters without physical presence, but The Joyce Center in Dublin has promised to send James Joyce himself to determine whether our choice of highlights from Ulysses is discerning enough for our literary souls to be blessed this year.

 

Our cast is headed by Robert Aubry Davis, an Emmy-winning broadcaster, who will be interpreting Oxen of the Sun - the most challenging chapter of Ulysses.
