Cecilia Sepp is a freelance association management consultant and writer based in Silver Spring, Maryland. An association management professional with twenty years of experience, she is uniquely qualified to provide support and guidance in the association and non-profit areas.

An active volunteer with the American Society of Association Executives and the Center for Association Leadership (ASAE & the Center), Cecilia shares her wealth of knowledge on issues ranging from leadership development to the practical application of association management at the local, state and national levels. She has contributed to newsletters, presented at ASAE & the Center seminars, and is serving on the 2006-2007 Communications Section Council, where she is leading the 2007 Gold Circle Awards group.

In addition to sharing her expertise with the association community, throughout her career Cecilia has trained and educated coworkers and volunteers on a variety of topics including chapter/component relations, association management, public speaking, and software packages.

Cecilia began her career in Washington, DC at the US Chamber of Commerce. Focusing on policy analysis in the area of labor and employment issues, she worked on the Civil Rights Act of 1991, health care issues, Americans With Disabilities Act, and striker replacement legislation through the coalition Alliance to Keep Americans Working.

After her tenure at the Chamber, Cecilia’s career shifted from policy and legislation to association management. At the Association of Corporate Counsel (formerly the American Corporate Counsel Association) she filled a variety of roles over a five year period, including board relations, press relations, newsletter writing and editing, and component relations.

Seeking a new challenge, she then took a position at the American Academy of Otolaryngology—Head and Neck Surgery. Over a four year period, Cecilia rebuilt the Board of Governors/Society Relations Department. She revamped the physician marketing training program “ENT Outreach,” and incorporated new programs addressing state legislation and volunteer recognition. She also established a quarterly newsletter for the 106 member societies.

After a brief tenure in a position that was eliminated due to budget constraints, Cecilia became Managing Director of Tappers With Attitude, Inc., a non-profit arts organization dedicated to preserving the American art of tap dance. As Managing Director, she was responsible for all corporate and business aspects of the organization, and used her talents as a writer to help communicate the organization’s message to the public and the tap dance community. After assisting Tappers With Attitude, Inc. re-organize, she decided to strike out on her own.

In April 2004, Cecilia launched her own consulting & communications business, CS Association Services, and she launched her blog, Association Puzzle, in 2005.

Cecilia received her BA in political science, with an adjunct degree in management, from Webster University in St. Louis, MO. She is a member of the American Society of Association Executives & the Center for Association Leadership (ASAE & the Center) and the Washington Independent Writers (WIW).
